The city of Utica just did something that caused many Bosnians to stop scrolling. They raised the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina in front of City Hall.

Not in someone’s backyard. Not at a cultural center. In front of City Hall. The building where laws are passed and decisions that shape the city are made.

Mayor Mike Galime stood at the podium and presented a proclamation. He recognized the vital role that Bosnians and Bosnian-Americans have played in Utica. Not just recently. But for decades.

More Than a Flag

Bosnians make up one of the largest refugee populations in Utica. More than 8,000 people call this city home today. They didn’t just arrive. They built. They opened businesses. They raised families. They turned a declining city into something worth talking about.
