For decades, the Bosnian diaspora in the US has been known for one thing: Work.
We are the ones who fix the trucks, build the software, heal the patients, and revitalize the neighborhoods that others abandoned. We pay our taxes, we keep our heads down, and we build our lives.
But lately, a different kind of list has been growing.
The Department of Homeland Security's new "Worst of the Worst" (WOW) transparency database has flagged 13 Bosnian nationals as serious public safety threats.
These aren't people with expired visas or minor parking tickets. These are individuals charged with murder, arson, heroin trafficking, and money laundering.
They are the "Unlucky 13." And every time their mugshot flashes on the local news, they make life harder for the thousands of honest Bosnians trying to make it in this country.
Here is the Hall of Shame.
The Newest Arrests: Shame in Nashville
Just this week, while the community was busy working, two new names were added to the federal docket from Nashville, Tennessee.
**1. Armin Smajilović** - **Charge:** First Degree Murder (Ubistvo s predumišljajem) - **The Reality:** This is the most serious charge in the American legal system. It wasn't an accident. It wasn't a bar fight. It is a stain on the entire community in Tennessee. Smajilović is currently detained and facing a life sentence.
**2. Brankica Janković** - **Charge:** Possession of Narcotics & Criminal Trespassing - **The Reality:** Arrested for drug possession and being on property she had no right to be on. She is currently detained.
The "Hall of Shame" (The Dirty Dozen)
Smajilović and Janković join a growing list of Bosnian nationals that ICE has publicly flagged as dangerous.
According to the official WOW database, these are the other 11 individuals currently destroying our reputation.
The Violent & Dangerous (Nasilnici)
These are the crimes that make neighbors afraid to live next to us.
